This one made me weepy this morning. Girl finds out her bestfriend and roommate -- a 160-lb English Mastiff has terminal bone cancer and only has a few months to live. So armed with a bucket list of adventures she would like to share with her dog, they go off on canoe rides, road trips, visits to both busy spots and quiet spaces and, finally, spend a last day together by the ocean in Maine, where she finally finds peace and acceptance. This is real love, people.

I still keep a journal despite having a blog. No matter how spill-all-my-guts-out open I may seem, there are many things I do and think that I'll just never tell. I've always thought it kept me sane to be able to express myself without fear of being censored or criticized. Whenever I pick up an old journal, even one from my 13-year-old self I realize that as much as I've changed so much is still the same. I just know how to dodge bullets faster and better. Which is why I've decided to keep this blog around, at least for a little while longer. I've always picked up a pen (or sat in front of a keyboard) any time I needed to make sense of my world; writing allows me to get into my head and get all my thoughts out without having to worry about how ridiculous I sound (that's where the editing comes in). This was lovely. The post is by a novelist who was asked how to encourage a young writer. It sounds eerily like the story of my life -- now all I need is to keep reading and keep writing (and, okay, start submitting). From: M Molly Backes' blog, 07/12/11

Every day at work I see all kinds of female bodies: athletic, boyish, curvy, voluptuous, natural, enhanced, preteen, post-baby, postmenopausal -- thousands of different bodies I've seen up close and personal in my lifetime. This infographic shows that the description of the ideal female body changes every decade or so, going back hundreds of years. I hope that soon we define the "perfect" body as one that is simply healthy and functioning; that what matters is that we're comfortable in our own skin. From: Greatist, 01/15/15

Nunu's Mum

Hey Gigi! Those are definitely numbers to be happy about! Although I didn't realise you're diabetic...but great to hear you are on tiptop shape!

Lost 15 lbs??? whoa...atta girl!

I am SURE I left a comment over the new year on one of your new year posts...but it's NOT THERE!!! grrrr....

Anyway once more, yay for the fantastic numbers!

BatJay, Ang Dating Hippopotamus

15 pounds les. wow, that's really great. most important is your A1C of 6.5 - this means you've really been consistently good at your diet and exercise.

if you can lower it to below 6, that would really be excellent and a great goal to have for 2008.

from one diabetic to another - congratulations kapitbahay. keep it up. perhaps one day, i will see you running with me up and down lake forest and foothill ranch.

I'm happy for you! =) I can feel your excitement. =)

I think I found a third of what you lost. Why? Is coffee fattening? Is being anti-GMA cholesterolic?

wonderful gigi! 15 lbs is something major to rejoice over :) here's to another 15? shucks. talagang magpapalit ka na ng career nyan!

Hey, that's really great news! Sarap makatanggap ng ganyang balita no? My nos. were also great the last time I went for my labs. And for a couple of weeks now I've been working out in the gym (I hate the cold so I can't do the outdoors like Papa does). Now I'm up for another set of lab works and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.Congratulations Gigi!

So, sobrang sexy mo na! Can't wait to see you when you visit!!! Dont worry, we can go to Rem's Resto "Piquant" where they only serve healthy and low fat food. Wouldn't want to waste all the hard work you put into losing 15 lbs. By the way, does this mean you will be making a wardrobe overhaul now that you've dropped several sizes? How cool!

Nunu's Mom - Thanks! My goal now is during my next trip back home, to (finally) visit Bora -- hang out at your new fab place and dare to wear a swimsuit at the beach. Ha!

KB - Maybe I'll be speedwalking as you run for now...but maybe I'll be able to keep up with you soon. :)

Pao - Thanks :) For a while there it seemed like nothing was happening, but I kept positive and patient, and then I started seeing results. So I've kept the faith.

Frankie - Naku, siguro kasi frustration causes stress. Stress leads to sleeplessness -- which then leads to weight gain. Buti nalang wala ako doon...I read the news lang at nagigigil na ako.

Cathy - I'm shooting for 15-20, but over the span of the next two years. But as long as I get to a point where I can get off my medication and maintain normal blood sugar levels, the actual number's insignificant. The vanity part of this process is really just icing. :)

Jet - Wow! I'd love to join you at the gym. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, too. Miss you na!

Leah - Ay sus, since I last saw you I've lost only about 5 lbs. I think. So you probably won't even notice! But yes, the bulk of my wardrobe has now gone vintage...not because I'm Hollywood-cool but because the only bottoms that fit me now are stuff I had from years and years ago!

Hey G, you are looking great! we have to catch up. Got diagnosed with diabetes too just last month. Working on my carbs and I hope to get a 6.5 or better too. g

Gar - REALLY??? You know, if there's anyone who's going to research the heck out of this disease and commit to beating it, it's you. I've been slipping a bit so I need to refocus. I'm sad we're in the same boat, but happy I have you in my corner. As you will ALWAYS have me in yours. :) Take care, sweetie! Let's see each other soon...over a salad meal perhaps?

  • LISTEN: "Pluto" by Chamsom

I don't have to understand Korean to love this song, although I think it's about a person who was in a rocky relationship that ended but still feels deeply for her former lover and is feeling lonely tonight. "You're like a little star that's far away from me and keeps disappearing." I suppose the title -- Pluto used to be known as the ninth planet from the sun but now isn't even considered one -- might provide a bit more context to the song's meaning. Spotify
