John Cusack annoys my husband, because my husband knows that for more than half my life John has been the only man in my dreams.
My husband -- the only man in my life -- however, has had several women who have figured in his fantasies one time or another. Catherine Zeta Jones (until she married Michael Douglas; for some reason that was a deal-breaker), Charlize Theron (great choice -- who wouldn't pick her?), and Adriana Lima (I just don't get this one and, although I acknowledge she's way hotter than me, I think she's one of those women men desire though other women can't understand why. I mean, if you're lusting over an Angel, why not Gisele or Alessandra instead? ). A couple of porn stars were on his list but they're retired now and have since disappeared from his radar.
So sometimes we play this game, where we pit one fantasy object against another. Some days Charlize beats Adriana, and some days Adriana whoops everyone else's tiny asses (although I suspect he does this just to irk me). But whenever he asks me if it's John or (name extremely hot man here), he knows what my answer's always going to be.
For me, there's always been just John. Until today.
There was a Man Vs. Wild marathon on the Discovery Channel today and my husband called me over to watch this crazy guy named Bear eat maggots, wrap a pee-soaked tee around his head to keep himself from overheating, and plunge himself into freezing water in the Alps just to show his viewers how to survive if they ever found themselves doing the exact same thing (not voluntarily, of course). Then I found myself watching hour after hour after hour, and I was completely and utterly fascinated, enraptured even. And now I'm not sure if I'd pick John over Bear Grylls if given a choice. Okay, maybe I would choose to hang out with John instead if Bear stunk of urine or had just bitten off the head of a garter snake. But the more I think about it now, maybe not (you'd understand if you saw Bear without all his clothes on like I just did this afternoon).
If you haven't watched the show yet (and you MUST), here's a short description:
In each episode of Man vs. Wild Bear strands himself in popular wilderness destinations where tourists often find themselves lost or in danger. As he finds his way back to civilization, he demonstrates local survival techniques, including escaping quicksand in the Moab Desert, navigating dangerous jungle rivers in Costa Rica, crossing ravines in the Alps and surviving sharks off Hawaii.
Lord, I'd follow this man to the ends of the earth. I mean, why not since he'd be the only person who could manage to get me back to civilization?
My husband laughs at me in my reverie. You wouldn't follow him anywhere, he says, you've never even gone camping. Which is true. But Bear could start a fire anywhere. And that's hot.
Happy New Year Gigi! =)

Hi Michael - Hope your new year began with a bang (in a good way, of course)! Wishing you the best of everything in 2007. :)

Happy happy New Year Gigi! Hope yours went with a bang!
John Cusack eh? BB likes him, in that he's-a-cool-actor/guy in the same vein as Ed Norton kinda way. My John Cusack is Ewan McGregor. Eversince Trainspotting. Gawsh, just the mere sight of him on telly makes me blush. I know he hasn't got the best set of hollywood teeth but I guess it's the fact that he doesn't stink of hollywood perfection that makes him so appealing to me. He is FUNNY, wicked Brit humour. Yes, he's made some dodgy films lately but I forgive him time & time again. And you know what it is really? He's still SO BESOTTED with his lovely french wife after 2 kids & soo many years. Wouldn't dream of being unfaithful, and I find that the sexiest thing...wouldn't you?
But nope, got no discovery channel so Bear Grylls is safe with you for now...=)

Hm. Myself, I go for Pierce Brosnan, Patrick Stewart (I'm a Trekker) and the latest addition to my list is Daniel Craig. Orlando Bloom only as Legolas, he doesn't float my boat as a brunette. Hm. Never really noticed, but they're all Brits. Have yet to watch your show but imagining myself in the wild.... nah, I'll curl up on my couch with a good steamy book instead.

hi Nunu's mum - OK, Ewan McGregor I definitely get!I think Renee Zellweger recently said in an interview she was going to make it part of her contracts that Ewan always has to be in her movies. Based on that '60s movie they did, I don't know if that's a bad or good thing (depends on this Beatrix Potter one, eh?)but she's one smart cookie for saying so! PS you can catch a bit of my Bear on his website -- but don't watch just yet because they're currently showing a snippet of that pee-in-a-tee thing he did. :)
Hey Anna - Now I know you're a true-blue Trekker (because you didn't say the dreaded "Trekkie."). And I, too, love Patrick Stewart! When I told my husband while we were still dating that my friends and I had a vigil for Gene Roddenberry at my apartment when he passed away, I swear he thought twice about sticking around.
Really? You like Orlando better as a blonde? But he was dreamy in LOTR for sure...

I like John Cusack! Didn't know he was once linked with Catherine Zeta Jones.
The new guy looks cool. Too bad we don't have Discovery Channel here in my area.
Happy New Year, Gigi. Wishing you all the best in 2007.

Hi Jayred - Yep, "my" John's been linked to so many women (sigh). Anyway a friend of mine had lunch with him once (long story but he was with Benny "the Jet," who is a good friend of Cusack's. He happened to visit the set Benny was working on with my friend, and the three of them had a casual lunch together). Friend said John was tall, very nice, no pretensions, cool. He couldn't tell me if he was cute, because guys supposedly don't do that. Oh well.
Anyway, funny thing is I finally confessed to my husband that I now have a "thing" for Bear and for the first time ever, the hubby didn't say anything bad about the guy. I think he actually understood! :)

gigi-
you are hilarious! me and my friend just watched a marathon of "man vs wild" this past friday night and i kept thinking he is the craziest man on earth, why am i watching this show. but your right, you can't stop watching it. it is absolutely riveting. i don't know if he is my fantasy guy, i think i would stick with john cusack. he may not be able to handle himself in the wild but think of the witty conversations you would have.

Hi Shira - I know, you're probably right. I was thinking the same thing but...
DID YOU SEE THE EPISODE WHERE HE TEARS OFF HIS CLOTHES AND IS BUTT-NEKKID???
