  • ADVENTURES WITH A (DYING) DOG

    1.21.15-I-Took-My-Dying-Dog-on-a-Bucket-List-Adventure1-590x442

This one made me weepy this morning. Girl finds out her bestfriend and roommate -- a 160-lb English Mastiff has terminal bone cancer and only has a few months to live. So armed with a bucket list of adventures she would like to share with her dog, they go off on canoe rides, road trips, visits to both busy spots and quiet spaces and, finally, spend a last day together by the ocean in Maine, where she finally finds peace and acceptance. This is real love, people.
  • THE HEALING POWERS OF KEEPING A JOURNAL

    N-JOURNALING-large570

I still keep a journal despite having a blog. No matter how spill-all-my-guts-out open I may seem, there are many things I do and think that I'll just never tell. I've always thought it kept me sane to be able to express myself without fear of being censored or criticized. Whenever I pick up an old journal, even one from my 13-year-old self I realize that as much as I've changed so much is still the same. I just know how to dodge bullets faster and better. • WRITING YOUR WAY TO HAPPINESS

    20WELL-articleLarge

Which is why I've decided to keep this blog around, at least for a little while longer. I've always picked up a pen (or sat in front of a keyboard) any time I needed to make sense of my world; writing allows me to get into my head and get all my thoughts out without having to worry about how ridiculous I sound (that's where the editing comes in). • HOW TO BECOME A WRITER
This was lovely. The post is by a novelist who was asked how to encourage a young writer. It sounds eerily like the story of my life -- now all I need is to keep reading and keep writing (and, okay, start submitting). From: M Molly Backes' blog, 07/12/11
  • THE "PERFECT" FEMALE BODY

    Greatist_body

Every day at work I see all kinds of female bodies: athletic, boyish, curvy, voluptuous, natural, enhanced, preteen, post-baby, postmenopausal -- thousands of different bodies I've seen up close and personal in my lifetime. This infographic shows that the description of the ideal female body changes every decade or so, going back hundreds of years. I hope that soon we define the "perfect" body as one that is simply healthy and functioning; that what matters is that we're comfortable in our own skin. From: Greatist, 01/15/15

Hey Gigi, Happy Thanksgiving Day. I kinda just perused this entry, forgive me. Just wanted to drop you a greeting. I will be back to read more of it. I noticed you bought a DKNY dress, Nice. My favorite brand of all time. Donna Karan rocks my world. Ok, CIAO Bella.

milkphish

happy thanksgiving, gigi . . . don't eat too much turkey and don't forget to wake up early friday morning for the sales :)

Lyn

Hey Gigi! Happy Thanksgiving...cooking a little something up on the stove and thought I'd check on an update. Half of me was thinking you'd go on another entry that shadows 'Take Home Hogs' - haha - it seemed appropriate. Love the dress! Do a smoky bronze eye, heavy on the gold to match the brown. It'll look great. A wedding I went to had the Chocolate brown and Tiffany Blue motif and a hint of gold went perfectly on the bridesmaids eye looked perfect. Just a suggestion. And FYI I adore King's! My cousins and I find excuses to head over there on the days they cook up their Malasadas - it's the only place I know that sells/makes malasadas in L.A. Paradise cake - great choice. Enjoy your Gobble Gobble day =)

KnOizKi

Ms Beautiful GiGi, Happy Thanksgiving. Don't stuff yourself too much!

joyce

happy thanksgiving! happy talaga ako dahil ngayon lang kami magbabakasyon sa call center =) we don't follow local holidays so this is really a welcome break! Sabi nga nung isa kong caller "don't eat too much turkey!" =)

There's a long story behind why my family - Filipinos that we are, in the Philippines pa - celebrate Thanksgiving with roast turkey and all the works. Happy Thanksgiving, Gigi (though this is late). As for that speech, oh, I'm sure that'd be a breeze for you.

Gigi

Hi Dexie - Donna Karan rocks mine too. :) In fact, the day she came by the store and I met and spoke to her was one of the highlights of my retail career. The main reason I worked for her company before (before it got bought out) was because I'd always wanted to work for her. Amazingly, she's quite shy. I really envy one of my former co-workers -- he became part of DKNY's visual merchandising team and got to ride with her and a few others on her private plane. Anyway after knowing more about her and her design process, I've become even more of a fan. :)

Hi Milkphish - I didn't eat a lot of turkey -- but I'm afraid I didn't shop today either. :( Actually, I didn't spend a thing today; not only did I NOT shop, but I ate leftovers all day!

Hello Lyn - EXCELLENT idea -- and I'm doing just that! Thanks! :)

Hi KnOizki - I ate more than I usually do on any given day -- but considering it was Thanksgiving, I did great! I had few bites of this and that -- and only had a sliver of the Hawaiian Paradise cake (and ignored all the other yummy desserts that were calling my name).

Hello Joyce - Oo nga no! I never thought of that -- magaling na perk yan. Kaya lang, mas maraming holidays sa Pilipinas kaysa dito (kasi sa US -- unless they work for a bank or the govt, most people are off Thanksgiving and Xmas but that's it!). I hope you took your day off to get a headstart on your holiday to-do list. :)

Hi Frayed - Try this blogsite. I've got to say, the cake looks much better "in person." http://bestofla.blogspot.com/2005/10/hawaiian-paradise-from-king-or-queen.html

Hi Mell - Inggit na inggit ako sa iyo. The lines at that place are always so long -- it would be great to live nearby, get your name on the wait list, go home and watch a little TV, and then go back and get seated. :) Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!

Hi Schatzli - Thanks! One thing I love about the dress is that I can eat at the reception and not have to worry about it ripping at the seams. Very comfortable indeed. :)

Hello Bugsybee - After five-plus years of living here (excluding the time she and dad studied and worked here in the '50s), mom got so accustomed to having cranberry sauce with her turkey. Her first year back in Manila, she and her friends went to TGIF for a turkey meal, and she was distressed to find out there was no cranberry sauce. I guess the manager felt sorry for her and comp'd her meal. Of course we all got on her case about that; we said she shouldn't have expected an American-style Thanksgiving in the Philippines. Me naman, I'd give ANYTHING to have a deep-fried turkey with paella stuffing here (yung garlicky na may tutong siyempre).

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, too -- in whatever style you chose to celebrate it!

Jovs

I love the dress!!! So feminine and so sexy! =)

dexie

goodluck on the speech. i'm sure it would be fabulous just like yourself. :).

  • LISTEN: "Pluto" by Chamsom

    Boong-

I don't have to understand Korean to love this song, although I think it's about a person who was in a rocky relationship that ended but still feels deeply for her former lover and is feeling lonely tonight. "You're like a little star that's far away from me and keeps disappearing." I suppose the title -- Pluto used to be known as the ninth planet from the sun but now isn't even considered one -- might provide a bit more context to the song's meaning. Spotify
